Cavallero Sanctuary in Coggiola
The construction of the sanctuary is due to the fact that, according to tradition, in 1678 a deaf-mute peasant woman miraculously regained the use of speech and hearing following a vision of the Madonna in the place where the sanctuary itself stands today.
The Latin cross church is decorated with stuccos and frescoes by the painter Pietro Lace of Andorno and houses about three hundred votive paintings left by faithfuls grateful for the graces obtained.
The religious complex also includes some chapels and the home for the hermits who, until the 19th century, were entrusted with the custody of the sanctuary.
In front of the church there is a bridge so large that it can be considered a square that crosses the Cavallero stream.
The two main celebrations that are celebrated at the sanctuary are that of the Madonna della Neve (August 5) and that of Saint Joseph (March 19).
In the adjacent area there are various benches often used for picnics.
The water that flows from the fountain to the right of the church is said to have therapeutic virtues
The sanctuary can be reached on foot from Coggiola (Zuccaro hamlet) by first following a road closed to traffic and then a path with steps in parts
