The Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Brughiera
The Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Brughiera, which stands in an area surrounded by pastures and woods just 2 km from Valdilana, is made up of two religious buildings in an open meadow, overlooking a spectacular panorama of the Po valley. In the center, the Burnel fountain. “Pure water, healthy air, an extraordinarily relaxing environment, breathtaking scenery lead to the discovery of the” amazements “of the Moor.”
Tradition tells how in the early sixteenth century a deaf-mute shepherdess from her birth received the grace of speech and hearing. Following the miraculous event, the Ancient Church was built starting from the seventeenth century, followed by the larger church.
The Ancient Church, which preserves a marble niche with the wooden statue of Mary, called “Madonna della Brughiera”, is the ideal conclusion of the Via Crucis which connects the parish church of Bulliana to the Sanctuary: a path consisting of a mule track along which located at regular intervals the fourteen chapels built starting from 1833.
In the Great Church you can admire:
-the grandiose wooden altarpiece, the work of Valsesian artists, superb frame to the canvas “Adoration of the Shepherds” by G. G. Barbelli (1604-1656) from Cremona.
–the unique ex voto witnessing the “Battle of the shoots” of the Mossesi against the Triveresi for the possession of the Ancient Church:
“… no offense to anyone by the miracle of the Virgin Mary 23.03.1643”.
